TRC News 7 June 2010

Dear Members

The mid-year extended break is almost upon us with the final training session being this Sunday 13 June.

Training will resume on 29 August and I will issue further emails nearer the time. This is a chance for a well earned break for the children but also an opportunity for the children that play in age groups that regularly focus on fitness to maintain their fitness levels over the holidays.

Dates For the Diary

The schedule for the second half of the year is currently being finalised but please mark your diaries with the following events to avoid clashes:

Straits Cup – We have extended an invitation to host Bintang RFC for the Straits Cup on 25 September. The age groups involved will depend on which teams they can tour with but this could include U7 to U8 mini touch and U9 to U15 boys contact.

Amazons Challenge – 6 November (Provisional)

Tour(s) to HK – the details are still to be finalised but we hope to take as many age groups as possible from U7 to U16 on either the weekend of 30 and 31 October or the weekend of 5,6 and 7 November. Which age groups travel on which weekend depends on a number of factors that cannot be finalised at this time.

Saracens Training – this will be spread mostly across the contact age groups on Sunday 14 November (all day), Friday 19 November (afternoon/evening), Saturday 20 November (all day) and Sunday 21 November (all day). The timing of each age group will be agreed nearer the time but if you can keep the weekend of 19-21 November clear of other commitments then there will be more chance your son will be able to join in the allotted session.

Polo Club and Cup of Nations – This is the main tournament in the second half of the year and will be on the weekend of 5 and 6 December.

Safety at Turf City

It has been brought to my attention that there was a recent attempt made by a stranger to entice a 6-year old child to leave with her from the taxi stand at Turf City – the original message is repeated below. This account was corroborated by one of our coaches who knows the family involved so I wanted to encourage you all to be vigilant with the safety of your children. I am sure that many of you, like me, consider Singapore to be a wonderful safe environment for our children to grow up in but perhaps this incident reminds us that we should not become complacent.

Just wanted to share an incident that happened today midday at the turf city taxi stand as I know many of you have kiddie activities there.

My 6 year old son was waiting for a taxi with my helper at midday. A pretty young lady approached him and said cheerfully "Hi am picking you up today lets go". Blank stare from my son waiting for an explanation and my maid stays silent to observe what is unfolding. The twenty something then offers him a soft drink. My maid steps in and says who sent you to pick him up? She replies unfazed and with a big smile: his mum is over there in the car pointing vaguely to the car park. At that point my maid told her off and the girl swiftly ran to the car and took off.

Kit

The latest delivery is expected to arrive this week and be on sale on Sunday at training for those who are waiting to buy kit.

It only remains to wish you all a good break over the next few months and I look forward to resuming rugby in late August! Safe travels to all.

Best Regards

Phillip
